Born and raised in New Mexico, Danielle Stech-Homsy currently lives and works in Brooklyn. She self-released her first album, Songs for Santa Ynez, in 2003, following it up two years later with A Bride’s Guide to Waiting Music (Gnomonsong).
Poet James Merrill’s productive use of a Ouija board for his work, discussed in Mitch Horowitz's “Spellbound” (also in this issue), got us to wondering: What kind of illumination—spiritual or otherwise—might musicians gain from a “talking board” Early in the summer Esopus sent Ouija boards to 13 participants, requesting that they use them in some way to create songs.
