Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker cofounded the Duluth, MN–based band Low in 1993 with John Nichols. The trio, considered forerunners of “slowcore,” has released a number of well-regarded albums since, including Long Division, Secret Name, Things We Lost in the Fire, and C'mon.
For our second CD invitational, we asked 11 musician-couples—people who have fused not only creatively but romantically—to choose a “Missed Connections” ad from the internet site Craig’s List and use it as inspiration for a song. The site’s “Missed Connections” features postings either by singles who are seeking to contact someone they’ve had a brief encounter with or by people who are mourning— or sometimes cursing—a lost love.
