The 9th issue of Esopus, the largest issue of the magazine published to date, reaches newsstands in early November. As usual, the magazine contains a multidisciplinary mix of contemporary artists’ projects, critical writing, creative nonfiction, visual essays, and a themed CD of brand-new music. Some highlights include projects by Kay Rosen, Charlie White, and Sarah Malakoff, and a deconstruction of crossword-puzzle science by New York Times crossword genius David Quarfoot, as well as new installments in the magazine's regular series.
For our 9th CD, “Dreams,” readers submitted transcripts of their dreams, which were then passed along to musicians, each of whom picked one to serve as the basis for a song. The 11 musical acts, including White Whale, Ida, Dirty Projectors, Califone, and Paavoharju, chose from over 100 submissions. Transcripts of the selected dreams appear in Esopus 9 alongside five illustrations by New York–based artist Daniel Gordon.
Each week, Esopus will stream a full-length version of one of more than 200 tracks that have appeared on its 19 themed audio compilations.
Our new issue will launch at BRIC Rotunda Gallery in Brooklyn Heights on Thursday, May 2nd, from 7 to 9pm.
Musicians reference customer-service experiences in 12 brand-new songs.
Esopus 17 and Esopus 18 will be available in a select number of Anthropologie stores starting at the end of February.
After an intensive six-month redesign, the Esopus website has relaunched to the public with a wide range of brand-new features.
The Esopus Foundation has just received a $25,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to support the publication of Esopus.
