Esopus 18 event at Brooklyn’s BookCourt

Esopus presents an evening of readings and musical performances related to its current issue, Esopus 18. Victoria Matsui reads her short story, “Good Friends,” which was published in the issue (and which is Matsui's first published piece of fiction). Cat Martino performs a short set of songs including “Radial Brief,” a track she created for the issue’s CD, “Slonimsky's Thesaurus,” which featured a range of musicians' takes on a legendary book of scales and musical patterns published in 1945 by musicologist and composer Nicolas Slonimsky.

Victoria Matsui graduated from Vassar College in 2010. She now lives in Brooklyn and is an editorial assistant at Little, Brown and Company. “Good Friends” is her first published story.

Cat Martino has toured across the U.S. and around the world with acts such as Rufus Wainwright, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Sharon Van Etten, and her frequent collaborator Sufjan Stevens. Originally from Long Island, Martino is currently based in Brooklyn. Her solo albums include Here Now (2004) and The Sea Closet (2009).
